Australian Biography Series - Joan Kirner (3-Day Rental)
The first woman Premier of Victoria, from 1990 to 1992, Joan Kirner is a passionate believer in community action and equity for women. The issue of her children’s education started her on her political career. She began as a lobbyist for parent organisations before entering Parliament herself in 1982. A member of the Labor Party, she pursued reform as Minister for Conservation and, later, Education. In this interview, the woman who would like “in sisterhood” inscribed on her grave talks about politics, feminism and being a mum.
